What to Expect in Class
Expect a workout that it is fun, challenging, encouraging, and suits the needs and goals of each person in her class. She also works with clients on an individual basis for those suffering with chronic pain, rehabilitation from surgery, or those who are simply seeking to learn more about their bodies. Whether your goal is to gain functional strength, improve posture and muscular balance, or rehab an injury, Shelia understands that everyone’s body has different needs and goals. She has a great appreciation of the diversity of strength Pilates can provide. She loves empowering her clients with a mind-body awareness and educating them that can be carried into their everyday lives.
Biggest Influences/Inspirations/Styles
After years of chronic back pain and facing surgery, she was advised to pursue Pilates with a qualified Pilates instructor. She learned that while private sessions were more expensive than group classes, the time, money and effort devoted to learning the exercises correctly was well worth the investment. She quickly learned that exercises performed incorrectly can make a back problem worse. Today, she emphasizes to her clients that one cannot underestimate the benefit of simple exercises that support the deep postural muscles of the trunk, awareness of neutral alignment, and supple use of the shoulders and hips. Because of her personal experience, she is uniquely attuned to the needs of people with chronic pain.
