Ashtanga Overview: What are the 8 limbs of yoga?

April 23: 12:30 to 2pm

 In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras the eightfold path of yoga, called ashtanga, is meant as a guideline for yogis to lead a meaningful, purposeful life.

In addition to an asana practice (of postures on the mat), this workshop will include discussion about each of the eight aspects: yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, and samadhi. Join us for an introduction to the how, when, and why breathing, meditation, and lifestyle are also an important part of a successful yoga practice.

This is the first in a series of three workshops this spring.


Introduction to Yama: What is the moral of the yoga story?  

May 20: 12:30 to 2pm

In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras the eightfold path of yoga is meant as a guideline for yogis to lead a meaningful, purposeful life. In addition to an asana practice (of postures on the mat), this workshop will include discussion about the first limb of yoga, yama, which are the moral considerations yogis are advised to practice on and off the mat. Join us for an introduction of what and how non-harming, honesty, non-stealing, moderation, and non-covetousness can strengthen your yoga practice.

This is the second in a series of three workshops this spring.


Introduction to Niyama: What is the yogi’s code of conduct?

 June 25: 12:30 to 2pm

In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras the eightfold path of yoga is meant as a guideline for yogis to lead a meaningful, purposeful life. In addition to an asana practice (of postures on the mat), this workshop will include discussion about the second limb of yoga, niyama, which are the values yogis are advised to practice for themselves on and off the mat. Join us for an introduction of what and how cleanliness, contentment, discipline, self-reflection, and faith can further develop your yoga practice.

This is the third in a series of three workshops this spring.

Whether headstand or handstand are already part of your yoga practice, or perhaps something you may be looking forward to adding to your regular yoga practice, spend focused time learning or refining alignment and building strength to go upside down safely.
Practice will begin with pranayama (breathing) and vinyasa flow (postures). The body of this beginners workshop will focus on safety, fundamentals, and alignment in chataranga (low plank), bakasana (crow), prasva bakasana (side crow), adho mukah vrksasana (handstand), and sirsasana (headstand). The practice will wind down with a short yin-style sequence and savasana.
This workshop is not suitable for those with active or chronic neck, spine or shoulder injuries.

 

 

 

Intro to Flow Workshop – January 16, 2016

Explore vinyasa – the flow practice in its various forms. Learn the fundamentals, linking the breath with movement. Discover the foundations of flow, breathing techniques, proper alignment, as well as modifications to make the flow practice approachable and specific to your body.

A perfect place to start for those new to yoga, but also a great for more experienced students who would like to refine their practice. An opportunity for us to learn and flow together, and have some fun! Adding a little spice with some new variations and different ways you can progress your personal practice. Explore your unique self in the journey through asana, pranayama and dhyana (yoga postures, breath and meditation). Fly higher, with greater ease & fluidity. Move with lightness and grace. Deepen your connection to your body, and most importantly to your heart.
